I had a gentleman call with an interesting question. Can chrome plating a bolt face or even on lugs of a bolt rifle help correct minor headspace issues? Has anyone attempted this or heard of it being done?

If the headspace is slightly long yes the chrome will shorten the headspace. This is true of any finish with thickness like Cerakote ect. The issue is slightly more complex however. If the rifle will close on a field gauge chrome probably won't get it to stop on a no go. In addition chrome on your bolt lugs will almost certainly degrade the accuracy to some extent as one bolt lug will probably not touch after. I would only consider it if there was a good reason not to set the barrel back. Full disclosure I have never done plating.
